In data view it looks fine, but in layout view the outline of the feature is visible (and even extends off the map onto the page margin).

I'm not entirely sure what the fix is but perhaps going a step further and clipping the dataframe to fit your feature will help you. You can read about it here: http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/index.html#//00s90000000q000000

...a polygon I drew and then converted into a feature... ...When I change the clip options back to "No Clipping", the problem goes away, but I need the layer to be clipped.

Not to be picky but because someone had to explain it to me at one point - the term "feature" is used interchangeably between a polygon, point, line or annotation (It is of course important to clarify which type of feature you are working with); the term "feature class" clarifies that the features you are working with are stored in a geodatabase (as opposed to a .shp file).

I'm not sure what you mean by "clip options" (a screen shot may help me understand). In my experince once a feature is clipped and your edits are saved then the clip is permanant. To my knowledge can't "un-clip" but if you can I'd love to know about it!

Post back and let us know if any of this helps!

Clip Outline in Layout View

I am using ArcMap 10, and successfully clipped the layer to the shape of another .shp file. (Originally a polygon I drew and then converted into a feature). In data view it looks fine, but in layout view the outline of the feature is visible (and even extends off the map onto the page margin). I can't figure out how to get rid of this! When I change the clip options back to "No Clipping", the problem goes away, but I need the layer to be clipped. The .shp file used as the clipping outline is set to "no color" for both the fill and the outline...so why would it appear in layout view?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
