Mita,

Thanks for that info. I am currently exploring the OpenSpirit plug-in for Petrel that you mention. It will be nice to see added support for this.

I was able to come up with a work-around for now where I create a tab delimited csv file out of an ERSI GIS vector polyline featureclass file (sub-surface contours) using the Data Interoperability Tool keeping only X,Y,Z attributes which Petrel will except as a general format. Unfortunately this does not include any other attributes. I am able to bring in other attributes as a Petrel Point Attribute file format which includes the X,Y,Z columns plus an addtional column for an attribute to use.

Thanks,
Michael

I would like to convert data from ESRI ArcGIS featureclass or shapefile format into Schlumberger 's Petrel application format.

I tried zmap format but Petrel is expecting ASCII but using the data interoperability tool gives me a .dat file that Petrel can not read (wrong header structure).

Has anyone used the data interoperability tool to provide a format that Petrel can import? Is so, what is the best way to go about this?

Thanks

Hi Michael,

Schlumberger's Petrel http://www.slb.com/services/software/geo/petrel.aspx application is currently not in the list of OpenSpirit formats enabled by Data Interoperability (see below)

However Petrel is integrated with OpenSpirit, so in theory Petrel should be able to read from an OpenSpirit datastore including SDE. You may not need Data Interoperability as you should be able to do it directly in Petrel using the OpenSpirit adapter.

Just as an FYI, here is a list of OpenSpirit formats which we are currently adding support for at Safe Software (and still beta testing). These should be available in a future ArcGIS Data Interoperability release or service pack.

Paradigm - EPOS reader
     http://www.pdgm.com/products/data-management-interoperability/epos.aspx
Schlumberger -Finder reader/writer
     http://www.slb.com/services/software/im_technology/finderdata_productview.aspx
Schlumberger - GeoFrame reader/writer
     http://www.slb.com/services/software/geo/geoframe.aspx
SMT - KINGDOM reader/writer
     http://www.seismicmicro.com/Products/Advanced/kingdomAdvanced.asp
LandMark - OpenWorks reader/writer
     http://www.halliburton.com/ps/Default.aspx?navid=210&pageid=852&prodid=MSE::1055450533605512
IHS - Petra reader/writer
     http://energy.ihs.com/Products/PETRA/
Petris - Recall reader/writer
     http://www.petris.com/Products_&_Services/G&Gapplications.asp

Regards,
Mita Hajirakar
Safe Software Inc.
