topic Raster Data Type - Discrete or Continuous in Data Management Questions

In generating a new raster from the geoprocessing tools ( example "Select by Mask" or "Convert to Raster"), I have seen no option to specify the data type. This would either be continuous or discrete. This seems to default to continuous. However for dealing with discrete data, it can be a problem. My solution has been to switch to ArcCatalog and then to set the type to discrete with the data type switch. However, this apparently does not take effect until Arc Catalog is closed. Did I miss something in the Help.

not sure if I understood the question, but if you want to make your floating raster to discrete, use int[raster] in raster calculator or single output map algebra
