Try the following (ArcView license):
1. Union the two buffers.
2. Use Select By Location to select the unioned result by the smaller buffer.
3. Run Delete Features tool to delete the selected from unioned result. You should get the ring.

Ring Around Feature

When I need to create a ring around a feature I usually create 2 buffers and use Erase tool. This way I erase the smaller buffer from the bigger buffer, and end up with a ring of the specified width.

But Erase tool is only available with ArcInfo license. Does anybody know what is another way of creating a ring around the feature.

Thanks a lot in advance.
