topic Attachments - Remote Database in Data Management Questions

Good Afternoon,

We are embarking on the migration of our GIS to version 10. At the same time, our organization is looking at implementing a citywide document management system. For that reason, we were intrigued by the new attachment feature of version 10. I just had a, most likely ridiculous, question:

Can the attachment table be stored in a separate sde database? ( I guess the underlying question there is can relationship classes be set up across databases?)

local government
soon to be arc10
sql server

Thanks,
Shaun

Relationship classes can only be created in the same geodatabase that contains the feature classes or tables. Therefore, the feature class, relationship class, and attachment table must reside in the same geodatabase.

Thanks for the info Jake. That pretty much limits its ability to be utilized as an enterprise level document management solution - but still very useful.

Just a shot in the dark, but do you have any information of document management systems that integrate well with esri?

Shaun
