Hello,

I'm trying to overlay data in WGS 1984 onto an .hdf file projected in NSIDC EASE Grid (EOS (AMSR-E) soil moisture data), however I cannot get my other shape files to correctly transform onto this projection.

I defined the .hdf projection as follows:
ArcToolbox > Data Management Tools > Projection and Transformations > Raster > Define Projection > Polar > NSIDC EASE Grid Global.prj

I check the layer properties and set the coordinate system:
NSIDC_EASE_Grid_Global
Projection: Cylindrical_Equal_Area
False_Easting: 0.000000
False_Northing: 0.000000
Central_Meridian: 0.000000
Standard_Parallel_1: 30.000000
Linear Unit: Meter

GCS_Sphere_International_1924_Authalic
Datum: D_Sphere_International_1924_Authalic

When importing another layer (in GCS_WGS_1984) I'm automatically prompted to transform it.
I convert from GCS_WGS_1984 into GCS_Sphere_International_1924_Authalic. This new layer doesn't overlap at all, however (and dramatically so).
Is there some step I've missed? A different approach to take?

I only saw this succinct post addressing this projection:
http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/39394-Projection-issue-with-NSIDC-image?highlight=EASE+Grid

Thanks in advance for any help!
