    <description>&lt;HTML&gt;&lt;HEAD&gt;&lt;/HEAD&gt;&lt;BODY&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;Greetings,&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;&amp;nbsp; I'm building geometric networks for utility data and could use someone�??s two cents on the basics of geodatabase management.&amp;nbsp; I've fixed errors using topology and am ready to create the network.&amp;nbsp; Geometric networks are a bit new to me.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;&amp;nbsp; From my experience feature classes within a feature data set can either be in a topology or geometric network, not both.&amp;nbsp; This means that to check my data for errors I build topology, fix the errors, then either delete my topology and create a geometric network or export the feature classes to a new feature dataset and create a geometric network in the new data set.&amp;nbsp; If this is correct then I can no longer use topology in the future to check edits and fix errors.&amp;nbsp; Additionally, because a water zone polygon would not be included in the water pipe network, I lose the ability to define say my water zone topology as always containing a water main line/water structure point because the line/point features are in another dataset.&amp;nbsp; I feel like I'm missing something basic... are the connectivity rules in a geometric network such that they replace the need for topology validation checks?&amp;nbsp; &lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;Is it expected that when a validation/error check is needed that the feature classes will be copied/exported/imported back and forth between data sets?&amp;nbsp; or is there an aspect of geometric networks that resolves this issue? &lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;Lots of questions I know...
