topic Editor tools greyed out in Data Management Questions

Editor tools greyed out

I'm creating a new shapefile and want to create new features. When I bring it in to a 10.1 map, and select the file to start editing, it greys out the tools to create new features, but makes the modification tools available (even though I don't have features to modify yet). Any suggestions?

Have you selected a template yet? If not, you will have to select a template before the create features tools will become active. If not template is available then you have to create a template in Organize Templates button in the Create Features Window.

Thank you for posting it was helpful. Strange that this is the first non-templated map I have encountered since this functionality was added.

I find that if I have a definition query on the layer it can also sometimes affect my ability to edit a layer. Especially if adding a new shape to the layer.
