topic Shapefile Does Not Appear in Data Management Questions

hello,
I am working on a project using ArcMap 10. I am to create new polygons using and underlying PDF map. however when I zoom in past 1:125 000 my newly created polygons do not appear and this is not allowing me to use the trace tool. I have checked the .shp General Layer properties and the scale range is checked to "show all layer at all scales". Refreshing, restarting and reloading the .shp does not help either. The problem did improve however from not displaying at 1:300 000 to 1: 125 000 for some reason i am not aware. Any tips or ideas that would help to resolve this would be appreciated. This problem happens when ediing is in progress and even when the editor toolbar is not even open.

Can you go into the properties for the shapefile > Indexes tab then delete and recreate the Spatial Index?

the problem was solved by exporting the data and simply creating a new .shp to contiue working from. thanks though j.quinn.
