How do I add units to geographical coordinates?

I have a dataset with imbedded geographical coordinates. I think the units for those coordinates should be "m", but instead of units they have a "??". Does anyone know how to tell a dataset what units its geographical coordinates should be in?

For the dataset, it doesn't have a defined coordinate system. If it is a geographic type, then the units are in decimal degrees

Hi Ben,

Can you provide more information? For example, are you working with a feature class or shapefile? When you refer to embedded coordinates, are you referring to the coordinate system?

Thank you for the reply. I have since had a play and realised that I just needed to define the correct projected coordinate system.
