Hi,

I'm a newbie to Arc GIS (version 10 on Windows 7) and I'm having some problems with an ASCII to Raster conversion. Apologies in advance if I am not using "tight" GIS terminology! I am doing some work with the Global Fire Emissions Database (GFED v3.1) burnt area
data which is at 0.5 degree resolution. This data is available in a txt file without a header. I am able to add a header to enable the ASCII to Raster conversion to work, but am running into problems with large burnt areas occurring over water. I have attached two
files:
1) Global burnt area (hectares) for July 1996 (this worked ok).
2) Same but for August 1996 (this one looks ok for the Northern but not Southern hemisphere).

Was just wanting to know if there are some solutions out there for this? A highly likely problem I have is defining the co-ordinate system for the Raster. The data I am converting does not have a defined co-ordinate system.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Nic Surawski.
CSIRO, Post-doctoral Fellow, Canberra, Australia.
