Cut polygon into multiple pieces

Hi all.

I'm having trouble cutting a polygon into multiple pieces. I have a shapefile of a TIF district that I would like to break into 4 or 5 sections. I select the polygon for editing but when I use the 'cut polygon' tool to split the polygon, part of the polygon disappears.

I can't seem to figure this out. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Tim - question for you - are you using the Cut Polygon tool in a layer generated from the "Create Layer from Selected Features" command? If so, there's a NIM040435 that addresses this particular issue with no resolution other than not creating a layer from selected features.

If you want to split the polygon into rectangular shapes, the following tools might be helpful:
- Create Fishnet tool gives you grid-like polygons based on your specifications.
- Split tool splits your data using the fishnet polygons.

Robert -- Yes! I selected a few TIFs from a larger file and made a layer. I guess I can work from the original layer. I thought I was going crazy. Thanks!

Are you sure you weren't using the Reshape Polygon tool?
