I have a polyline which is divided into multiparts and these parts are not well ordered so that the vertex's ID are not following the polyline's plotting.

This polyline is a representing a bus line and I need to have the plotting following the driving way of the bus. I would like to know how to merge the multiparts of this polyline?

I have already tried to Split and Unsplit, as well as Multipart to Single Part, Union, Merge, etc. but no one is giving me the result I want.

Could anybody help me? Thanks! BM

I had done that too, but when unioning or merging, it rebuilt it as a multipart polyline.

I suppose you have ArcGIS 10 and ArcInfo License. After using Multipart To Singlepart to break your polylines into singlepart lines, you can try Unsplit Line tool, which "Merges lines that have coincident endpoints and, optionally, common attribute values".

It worked! Thanks a lot!
I did this merging through the attribute "name of the line" and now I have single part polylines. I just needed to flip some of them to have the right direction.
Great!

That's very good to hear!

There is a Flip Line tool in the Editing toolbox; you need to select the lines you want to flip and then run the tool on the selection. I have proposed an enhancement - to allow a flow direction, e.g. increasing or decreasing M or Z values. Hope it gets implemented in a future release. 🙂

Best regards,
