topic Style References in Data Management Questions

When new Style References are created we place them in a certain folder. When I have no use for a particular style, I delete the style. The problem is, when a mxd that used this style is opened, it places the style back into the folder in which I deleted it from. Is there any way to permanently delete the style and keep it from re-depositing into the original folder? One other obstacle is we have so many users, I do not know the mxd that contains these styles, in order to remove them.

Are you also deleting the file from the location that it is automatically placed in by ArcMap? Ex. On my computer the style is automatically saved in AppData\Roaming\ESRI\Desktop10.2\ArcMap.

The styles aren't being replicated and saved to that location. I have checked there. They keep reappearing in the original folder that we saved them to. This only happens if you open a mxd that had that style in it. It disreguards the delete and installs it back in its original folder.
