Mosaic Datasets - Panchromatic and Multispec

Hi all,

I've just started working with the mosaic datasets and have a few questions. Is it possible to load both panchromatic and multi-spectral imagery into one mosaic dataset? I've tried loading both but the MD seems to display based on whichever is loaded first. If I load a pan image first, the multi will only display one band. And if I load the multi first, the pan images display in a 3 band mosaic (displaying as green, red or blue, not black and white). I've tried using the extract band function, but it's not working (maybe doing it wrong?).

Also, we plan on using these in an online service using the image extension for Arc server. Will there be a performance benfit for having two MD (pan and MS), or should all the imagery be loaded into one? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

When you create a mosaic dataset, there is an option on the Create Mosaic Dataset tool to specify the Number of Bands. Use this when adding a mix of content. Because, when you add data to the mosaic dataset, it will use the properties of the first image added to set the properties of the mosaic dataset. As you�??ve seen�??when adding 1-band, then 3-bands, 2 of the bands are not added.

Add these types of images in 2 groups. The first is to add the multispectral imagery (e.g. 3-band images). Then add the 1-band images. But open the Raster Type properties, click the Properties tab and enter �??1 1 1�?� in the Band Combination text box. (Add �??1�?� for every band in the multispectral image.

The performance should be the same.

Thanks Melanie. I haven't got around to testing this, but I wasn't changing the band properties when loading. Also, thanks for the link to the help page, I'll make sure and read through all of it.
