topic Landfire Data in Data Management Questions

I am trying to use the Landfire data tool (v 2.4) with ArcGIS Desktop 10 SP4, and can't get the assembly tool to work. 1st, I received the following message: Failed to open raster dataset. I had the option to hit OK and did, then I got this message: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. Check Directory SetUp
Again I hit ok, and here is what happened next:

Smart Assembler 2.4 starting to process . . . 4/6/2012 12:02:39 PM
Gathering some info...
The data included in lfdat1 is in LCP format and has been unzipped into the output directory.

The data included in pre1 is in LCP format and has been unzipped into the output directory.

Processing done in 0.8 minutes

There was no data in the output folder I had created and to which I directed the program to create output files.

Then I downloaded the data directly and tried to open the raster and got "Invalid raster data set, failed to create raster layer."

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.
