Hello,
I am a GIS Tech and our company just changed to windows 7. We have Arc GIS 10 in our computers. Some one just contacted me because he trying to connect to his folders and retrieve any data sources gets the following error:

Failed to connect to database.
An underlying database error occurred.
Class not registered

Downloaded the Excel 2007 32 bit interface and it did not fix the issue. If works when the spreadsheets are saved as "97-2003 Spreadsheet" then it works fine.
I will really appreciate any help to find a simpler solution of fix.
Thanks,

So it sounds like you have Office 2003 installed but are wanting to connect to 2007 XLSX documents via ArcGIS Desktop. Follow the steps sequentially below and let me know if this works:

From what you wrote, I believe you may have already installed the 2007 Office System Driver: Data Connectivity Components located here:

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=23734

If so, please also install the patch below so that the components above behave correctly:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=E93AB1BE-ADE6-4FF8-8637-DBD3EBE3C5C5&displaylang=en

Next, please install the service pack update for the patch available here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=6f4edeed-d83f-4c31-ae67-458ae365d420
