topic Reverse Geocoding - only need Country in Data Management Questions

Hi-

I have a list of several thousand latitude/longitude points from all over the world. I need to reverse geocode them and all I need is the country. I just want to know what country the point lands in. Most of them will be in wild uninhabited areas with no real address nearby. I have tried using the Reverse Geocoding tool with no luck. I use the ESRI_ PLACES_WORLD.geocodeserver and I get an output data set with a blank field called PlaceName. I am using ArcGIS 10. I was hoping that I could select an option to just get the Country name or code out, but the only option I see is Address.

Any ideas or advice would be helpful. I know there are webservices that could do this but I don't know how to batch use them and I don't use mySQL etc.

thanks-

Sally

I think you would be better off using a spatial join or intersect using the World Countries polygon layer from ArcGIS.com.

Brad
