ArcSDE Service started then stopped

Anyone ever experience this?

"The ArcSDE Service(esri_sde) service on xxxxxxx started then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs."

Basically put I cannot get the ArcSDE Service to keep running. V10.0

That's a generic error message that can be caused by many things (I've personally
seen 8-10 different causes).

You need to review the logs created in the SDEHOME\etc directory to figure out
where to go next. Sometimes it helps to run 'sdemon -o start' to get the error
message in realtime.

Hi Dan,

As Vince mentioned there are many causes for this type of error to be thrown. more information on your current configuration and what has been completed prior to this error will greatly help others in providing concrete suggestions.

> Has the geodatabase been upgraded recently?
> 'sdemon -o start' output?
> ArcSDE version? Is this a new service?
> Can you create a new service?
> Oracle, SQL Server, etc.
> Can you make direct-connections to the same geodatabase?
