    <description>&lt;HTML&gt;&lt;HEAD&gt;&lt;/HEAD&gt;&lt;BODY&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;That's a generic error message that can be caused by many things (I've personally&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;seen 8-10 different causes).&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;You need to review the logs created in the SDEHOME\etc directory to figure out &lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;where to go next. Sometimes it helps to run 'sdemon -o start' to get the error &lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;message in realtime.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;- V&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/BODY&gt;&lt;/HTML&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;HTML&gt;&lt;HEAD&gt;&lt;/HEAD&gt;&lt;BODY&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;Anyone ever experience this?&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;"The ArcSDE Service(esri_sde) service on xxxxxxx started then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs."&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;Basically put I cannot get the ArcSDE Service to keep running. V10.0&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;Dan&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/BODY&gt;&lt;/HTML&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;HTML&gt;&lt;HEAD&gt;&lt;/HEAD&gt;&lt;BODY&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;Hi Dan,&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;As Vince mentioned there are many causes for this type of error to be thrown.&amp;nbsp; more information on your current configuration and what has been completed prior to this error will greatly help others in providing concrete suggestions.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;&amp;gt; Has the geodatabase been upgraded recently?&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;&amp;gt; 'sdemon -o start' output?&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;&amp;gt; ArcSDE version?&amp;nbsp; Is this a new service?&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;&amp;gt; Can you create a new service?&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;&amp;gt; Oracle, SQL Server, etc.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;&amp;gt; Can you make direct-connections to the same geodatabase?&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;...&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/BODY&gt;&lt;/HTML&gt;</description>
