Address Locator Error Message

I was trying to geocode an excel table in which I have Zip code and Address as some of its attributes. I chose " US Streets Geocode Service Online(ArcGIS Online) Locator and got this error message: " The address locator is damaged. Resource is not available, regardless of authorization".
Can you tell me what I have to do to fix this problem?

I'm getting the exact same message and it won't repair the locator when it asks if I would like to repair the locator

Same Problem here when I try to do a Closest Facility Analysis... Cant figure out why. 😞
Does someone has any solution?

There's a new default locator XML file you have to download-once you get the new file, here's what to do with it (it's an e-mail from ESRI Tech Support:
This is Kara M. with Esri Technical Support regarding incident #1240876. The reason you are experiencing this error message is that we have officially retired the tasks address locators. More information regarding the deprecation of the tasks locators can be found here:To resolve the initial issue of the error message you are receiving, please follow the steps below:

1. Close out of all ArcMap and ArcCatalog sessions.
2. Download the attachment from this email.
3. Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\ArcGIS\Desktop10.0\Locators and rename the DefaultLocators.xml to DefaultLocatorsOLD.xml.
4. Copy and paste the attached file into this folder.
5. Open ArcMap and retest.

I could also just edit the XML file to include the block of XML that has changed.

I can't find the attached file you said I have to copy and paste into Locators folder. Also, in the Locators�?? folder I�??m seeing only "DefaultLocators.xsd" but not "DefaultLocators.xml"

Thanks for taking the time to post. Unfortunately the first link is for an XML file that removes ALL online locators. The second link leads to an article that eventually takes me to this page http://support.esri.com/en/knowledgebase/techarticles/detail/40802 but I cannot follow those instructions because I have Arcmap 10.0.

Following the link instructions worked just fine for my ArcMap 10.0

1.Open the Address Locator Manager.

a) Click Customize.
b) Highlight Toolbars.
c) Select Gecocoding from the toolbar menu.
d) Expand the drop-down menu on the left.
e) Click <Manage Address Locators...> at the bottom of the menu.
2.In the Address Locator Manager dialog box, click Add.
3.In the 'Look in' drop-down menu of the Add Address Locator dialog box, select GIS Servers.
4.Select Add ArcGIS Server and click Add.
5.In the Add ArcGIS Server wizard, select Use GIS Services and click Next.
6.Select Internet. Enter the server URL below. In the Authentication section add your ArcGIS Online Organizational Subscription credentials:

http://geocode.arcgis.com/arcgis/services

7.In the Add Address Locator dialog box, select 'arcgis on geocode.arcgis.com (user)' from the list of GIS Servers and click Add.

8.Select the World Geocode Service. Click Add.
9.Click Close.

Thanks. I was able to follow those instructions in ArcMap 10. Is it your understanding that the World Service always requires a sunscription and credentials?

I believe that in the "near" future ESRI will require a subscription but at the time of this post if you just add the service it doesn't require a subscription or credentials.

PMoore: Can you please post that XML file that Kara from ESRI provided you? I've tried the steps in the link you provided, per the suggestion of another post-er, but that didn't work for me. I'd like to try what Kara offered you. Thank you.

I tried this with 10.1 and it did not work. It's strange this is all happening to us at the same time. So does Kara M. with Esri Technical Support from above mean they "officially retired" the address locators or basically geocoding options today? Now we have to figure out some way to buy geocoding services from them?

I want to thank all of the posters for discussing this ongoing issue. I became aware of the problem on Feb 6th at my university but I was unable to get a definite answer from ESRI regarding the issue. It's very
frustrating getting no answers but you have no idea about the relief that I'm experiencing right now!

Thanks for the advice and help to everyone. I'm really new to the program and was trying to geocode some US street address and I ran into the same problem.

I followed the instructions on this page, but the only locator I have now is MGRS. Does anyone know what happened to the other locators? Can we still geocode U.S. or North American street address?

I also found this thread about world geocoders and tried that route and was asked to login to a system that I didn't have access to: http://support.esri.com/fr/knowledgebase/techarticles/detail/40802
