topic ArcGIS and Enterprise Content Management integration in Data Management Questions

I've read a number of case studies on the integration of ArcGIS and ECM systems, but they all had the idea of geographicaly placing the documents in the ECM repository.
What I'm wondering is whether it is possible to integrate ArcGIS and an ECM system in a way that stores imagery and overlays on the ECM repository from where the GIS system would dynamically pull them out (online). If someone could point me in the right direction, I'd be most grateful.
Thanks in advance.
