Ok managed to fix the issue by completely uninstalling FME and ArcGIS. I needed to manually remove the following registry entries:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Safe Software Inc.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Safe Software Inc.

Then reinstalled FME, followed by the ArcGIS installation. The Data Interoperability extension is now available in ArcGIS and still have full functionality externally in FME.

Cheers!
Peter

I found an easy solution to this problem. Go to Programs> FME Desktop>Utilities>FME Integration Console; click on the ??Revert? button for the FME Extension for ArcGIS and that should remove it from ArcGIS.

FME Extension Breaking Data Interoperability Extension

Hi,

We are running ArcGIS v10.0 (build 2800) and have recently upgraded our FME to "FME Desktop 2011 (Build 6508)". The new FME contains an extension titled "FME Extension for ArcGIS". The FME extension seems to have over-ruled the Data Interoperability extension.

We have found that now when we open ArcGIS it checks out a license of FME regardless of whether the extension is ticked or not. So even when the extension is not being used it is trying to check out an FME licence.

The result is that we hit the ceiling with our FME licenses even though few people use the FME extension. If no FME licenses are available then the user will spend the next 10 minutes clicking ok to FME license error messages.

We have tried de-registering the FME extension and even uninstalling FME completely, but the FME extension remains in ArcGIS and we cannot restore the Data Interoperability extension. Even a full uninstall and reinstall of ArcGIS does not restore the Data Interop extension.

Note: We are not trying to run both extensions at once, we are simply trying to revert back to our Data interoperability extension as the FME extension is causing FME license issues.

Has anyone else experienced a similar issue? Does anyone have suggestions on how we can restore our Data interoperability extension?

Cheers!
Peter

Thanks Denise. Unfortunately trying to revert the FME extension doesn't seem to disable the FME extension and we have a support call open with FME support to assist with this.

We are now in a position where we are unable to remove the FME extension and can't re-enable the Data Interop extension. In hindsight we would have never extended FME into ArcGIS.

It is sounding like we need to continue to pursue a solution from Safe as the problem is now just trying to remove FME and the extension in ArcGIS.

Cheers.
Peter
