I created an address locator based on a shapefile of roads for a county. I created my table in excel (.xlsx). Checked and rechecked column headers and address formats. when I try to geocode the addresses it tells me "000006 : Could not open the address table." help?

What version of ArcGis are you using. I don't think 9.3.1 and earlier will open xlsx files. If Im wrong about that, make super sure you have no spaces or special characters on you field names. Null values somewhere might toss you a curve as well.

ArcGIS does not support xlsx format. You can save it as a xls if it isn't too big or convert it to a csv and it will work.
