topic .lyr file RGB and break information to CSV in Data Management Questions

Hello all,

I am trying to extract raster file symbology (RGB colors and data breaks) from ArcMap's .lyr file format and place them in CSV files. I am doing this because I want to preserve the symbology already given to the files via ArcMap and serve the styles along with the associated raster files in a WMS server. Although I am having trouble getting the required information because of the closed-source binary format of the .lyr file. I was going to use Python but I'm sort of at a roadblock, so any suggestions or pointers would be appreciated!

Thanks again,
Justin Reid

I found this script that might help in your situation.

http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/12581-get-rgb-values-with-vba-script

This extracts to csv for layers in ArcMap, not layer files, but could point you in the right direction. I never figured out how to do this for raster layers.

-Dennis
