Trouble saving the Story Map Swipe and Spyglass

Using the Story Map Swipe and Spyglass application template for a simple Swipe map. After entering basic settings, I click on Save and watch "Saving Story . . ." just grind and grind and grind . . .

I've tried 3 computers and 3 different browsers.

I've checked sharing settings on the source map and layers

Am I doing something wrong or is this function broken??

ESRI Tech Support helped me determine that a simple boundary layer in the originating map was corrupt. Once that was removed from the App, the App saved immediately. That layer could have been corrupted by accidental manipulation when opening the AGOL map in ArcMAP desktop . . .
