MXD Open Error

Does anyone else have this error when they open MXDs? This mostly occurs for me in MXDs that have alot of layers with alot of configuration.

This has happened to me using 10.4 & 10.5 ArcMap at 2 different companies! So its definitely the software.

I can usually open the attribute table and the map snaps back to normal. But sometimes it just freezes and I have to use the MXD Doctor.

Any tip is much appreciated.

Thanks,

Lee

Hi, Lee. To start, you really need to "analyze" your map. File/Analyze. Fix all your High Severity errors. Clear your cash, Customize/ArcMap Options/Clear Cache. If needed, open a blank ArcMap and copy your layers into the new .mxd. If any layers are drawing off live data in your network, consider exporting them in to a geodatabase, draw form there and remove the live connection. I could go on, but this will get you back in action. Check back in and I will continue! Good luck, Joe
