Will ArcReader be supported in the future?

Someone (not ESRI) has told me that ArcReader will no longer be supported after 10 is released.
Also that all future development will be focused on ArcExplorer.
Is this yet another case of déjà vu?

There is no mention of ArcReader or the ArcGIS Publisher extension for ArcGIS Desktop being deprecated at 10, other than no longer supported ArcReader on Sun Solaris 9.

I think everything is moving to the web, but I don't think Explorer can touch Reader in performance, but explorer at least supports GP. Too bad Reader doesn't support GP, or does it?

Would be a shame if ArcReader is no longer supported or updated. It is still a good tool for a user to access customized map content. The web api's that I have interacted with just seem to have this cartoon/clunky look?? ArcReader is a just clean interface to data.

Hi Ted,

ArcGIS Explorer Desktop is the focus for new feature development. It is an alternative to ArcReader, but not necessarily a replacement.

Web maps are not a solution for complex maps, fancy symbols, representations, large query searchs and mapplex labels. All of which work great in ArcReader. I don't see ArcGIS server as a replacement now that I know more of its limitations.
