Hi

I'm quite new to ESRI products and we're looking at using ARCREADER to replace a MAPINFO product and a CARIS GIS package. We have been using MAPINFO PROVIEWER to share some basic property mapping, Civic address information with Assessor's in our Taxation Division. As we move to ESRI I want to replace that with a comparable product from ESRI's suite. We tried ARCGIS Explorer but it is way too slow and contains much more functionality then they would need.

The ARCREADER product is just the package we were looking for. I have tested that and am convinced it will work to replace the MAPINFO Proviewer.

The second product we had was distributed to Fire, EMS and police agencies on a CD and gave the users a quick drop down list that searched our Civic Address Point file for specific Addresses. I would need to build a custom ARCREADER application to do this as well as the basic zoom, pan, print tools. Because it is used for emergency purposes we cannot depend on any sort of application delivered across the internet. It needs to be installed locally. We may look at updating the data via the web just not a live link.

I am not a programmer and been trying to figure out how to get started. I've downloaded a trial publisher license to test and A free Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition. I'ev been able to create the PMF file and open it in ARCreader. I was hoping the development of a custom ARCREADER might be somewhat of a drag and drop job but it doesn't look like that.

How to I access the ARCREADER controls?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Terry

I haven't used ArcReader for a number of years, but a quick google search reveals indications that you can geocode within it. You may want to get familiar with ArcGIS and how some of the functionality works; you'll first need ArcGIS desktop with an ArcGIS publisher license to create your ArcReader applications

As far as drag and drop; great idea, but no such luck...
