Hello GIS friends,

I'm wanting to create a data dictionary(s) to be used in ArcPad 10 on a Trimble Geo7X? Does anybody have any good recommendations on the overall guidelines, methodology, or framework to do this? Do I first try to create the data dictionary in GPS Pathfinder Office and then import it into the Trimble to be viewed and used in ArcPad?

As you can see, I'm a bit confused on the process and would love to hear from some experienced professionals on the be best way to do this. Any resources or tutorials outlining this process would be amazingly helpful. Thank you all so much in advance.

- Tom

I don't have any specific recommendations on the Trimble or it's software, but personally I would probably create it on the ArcPad side in the code directly, or use in the ArcPad Studio software. Personally I have always editing the files themselves....but mine still run on 7.x (even though we also have 10.x)

The online help for ArcPad 10 is ArcPad Help and this may have some helpful links too ArcPad | ArcGIS Resource Center

Unfortunately, although ArcPad is so much more powerful and flexible for some collection tasks than the other available apps, it doesn't see to get much love anymore in the tech support/development side, but hopefully my posting a comment will help give you questions a bump.

Thanks so much!

I realized that the best thing to do is create your feature class in your geodatabase in ArcMap. The geodatabase holds the domain names (drop-downs). Once you check-it out in ArcMap, and view it in ArcPad you are able to make the edits or add your geometries and the dropdowns are already there. There is no need to create a data dictionary, because that is already done when creating the domain names in your geodatabase in ArcMap.
