Daniel,

Are you using ArcPad Data Manager in ArcGIS Desktop to check-out data and create the APM? If not, I would recommend utilizing it. Once the check-out is completed it will provide you with the APM file as well as AXF files or SHP files depending on what you selected. These AXF files contain the features, fields, etc. to be viewed and edited in the field. An APM file without the AXF files is kind of like a MXD without a geodatabase or shapefiles within it.

I hope this helps.

The ArcPad Map Document (.apm) only contains references to your datasets (just like ArcMap). To view your data through the map document - you must have the correct references to your datasets.

If you open your .apm file in Notepad, you will see that the layers are referencing a file path that begins with 'SD Card'. If you are now running this project on a laptop - this may not be where your datasets reside on that machine (hence the empty map).

You can always begin with a new map and add the shapefile layers one by one to ensure correct reference paths.

Also - there was no ArcPad version 9 - it jumped from 8 to 10 (I like to think that this is because ArcPad seven ate (eight) nine!!)

Excellent! It was changing the file path using notepad. I can now view that apm. What a relief.

Now I need to keep the forms and change everything that is Wyoming to Colorado. I will use the ArcPad Data Manager to finesse this. Please keep an eye on this thread in case I get stuck. Thank you both.
