Change field/control visibility based on previous drop-down selection

I was wondering if there is an out-of-the-box way to have ArcPad fields/controls visible or not based on a user's selection early in the form.

For example - we are taking different types of samples in the field - water/sed/soil and depending on what the user picks from an early drop down menu, fields will be visible or not visible later in the form.

I found this older post that is somewhat similar, achieved with code:

I'm using ArcPad 8, do I need to dive into code for this?

I'm also interested in solving this problem with my own applications. Did you find an answer? Can anyone else help with this?

There is no out of box way for arcpad to handle this situation. You will have to dive into code.
