Hello,

I'm using ArcPad in combination with a laserrangefinder Leica Vector 1500 GMD with bluetooth device. But somehow I can't find the communication port to use. If I use the serial cable connection everything works properly but somehow I can't detect the right bluetooth port.

Does anybody have any experience on this matter?

Cheers,

Cris Smeets
Netherlands

Cris,

Which device are you connecting it to? Something that runs Windows Mobile or a desktop machine?

If it's Windows Mobile, you are required to set up an outgoing com port in addition to simply connecting the rangefinder. It's the com port that you specify here that's utilized by ArcPad.

If you're connecting to a laptop, most machines automatically provide you with an outgoing com port to use.

Check out my first post in the following thread:

Trimble laserace 1000 with ArcPad 10.0.2

Hopefully this leads you in the right direction. Feel free to respond with additional info if you're still having trouble getting it connected.

Tim,

Thanks for your information. I'm using a panasonic toughbook cf-30 running on Windows XP SP3. The strange part of this problem is that I also use another GIS system (EOD IS) on this machine. This program runs normal and indicates that the com port which is in use by the bluetooth rangefinder is com port 9. I would expect that the rangefinder uses the same com port in ArcPad, but that's not true. I also tested if there is a conflict in using both GIS, but that doesn't change the situation.

Responding to your remark : If you're connecting to a laptop, most machines automatically provide you with an outgoing com port to use.. If so where can I find the information about the com port?

Cheers,

Cris

Hi I also have a Leica Vector 1500 here for testing. I have installed ArcPad 10.0.3 on a windows 7 64 bit dev. machine. I have tried all of the baud rates with no success resulting with zero text in the range finder debug window. We are hoping to have the Vector IV, and a mosquito here for testing at a later time. However, I need to find a way to communicate as a proof of concept. Any suggestions would be appreciated. p.s. I do get a signal through com port 2 using a port monitoring program. Again. ArcPad see's nothing?
