Hello guys,

I have a little problem trying to export a file from ArcPad to shapefile.
I'm new to ArcPad, so will try to explain the process.

The way the surveyors gather the data is:
Office provide them with road network shp (polyline) and blank manholers and crossovers shapefile.
They add a road layer (shapfile format) to ArcPAd and then draw manholes and crossovers while on site using Quick Capture.
After that the features are saved in the shapfile and than coppied across to laptop. However last time I couldn't do it
because I got an error saying "Could not open specific file" and "Number of shapes does not match the number of table records" while opening the shapefile.
DBF file look allright

Any idead guys?

Thank you have a nice day!
Regards,.
Peter

Peter,

That's sort of a strange error to be getting. That error seems to say that the shx file may have been corrupted and is having trouble putting the dbf and shp together. I'm guessing if you ran it through this ArcScript you may be able to open it. Read the header and then build a new shx.

How are you transferring these files back and forth between the mobile device and your computer? Do you copy and paste the files with windows explorer or do you have a sync folder setup? Are you trying to open these files in ArcPad or ArcMap?

Do you use ArcGIS Desktop as well?

If you do, I might focus on perhaps modifying your workflow to begin using the geodatabase. If you can use ArcMap to check the data in and out from a geodatabase it would be much more stable.

Any additional info you have would help to get this on the right track.

Thanks.
