I have managed to find a solution to this one. Hopefully this will be useful to anyone else who comes across this problem..

From the Windows7 Control Panel step through the following wizard:

-> System and Security -> Action Center -> Windows Program Compatibility Troubleshooter -> [Select ArcPad 7.1 for Windows from the program list] -> Troubleshoot program -> [step through and keep selecting: 'I don't see my problem listed']..

The process will start ArcPad, asking for your license ID

The wizard will ask whether the problem has been resolved.

I have just loaded ArcPad 7.1 on a new tablet PC running Windows7 Professional. ArcPad runs ok and all vector data loads successfully but I also have an ECW aerial image that needs to be loaded.
On other tablets (running Windows XP) the plugin: 'ArcPad_6.0_ECW_Plugin_v1.2.exe' has worked well, but on the Windows7 machine, the following error message is displayed in the last stage of installing the plugin:

! Could not find the path for ArcPad.exe in the registry, please install ArcPad.exe and re-try install. PC Version Install Failed.
I have done the obvious i.e. reinstalled ArcPad and done a restart but get the same error.

I assumed that Windows7 has a different way of managing its registry and this version of the plugin is incompatible, but a web search on this problem has come up blank.

Any help on this would be much appreciated.

Hi,

I'm having issues with attaching ECW images into ArcPad 7.1.1 map. I have ArcPad 7.1.1 installed on Desktop and TabletPC run on WindowsXP-SP3. I installed 'ArcPad_6.0_ECW_Plugin_v1.2.exe'. When I try to attach ECW images, I cannot read (see) images from the image folder. When I browse through 'Add or Remove' program list from the control panel, I can see installed 'ArcPad ECW Extention'. However, I cannot find anything related to ECW extention from the Extention list under ArcPad Advanced settings.

Could you please let me know how you set up the ECW extention with ArcPad 7.1.1 to work successfully? Do I need to copy anything into 'C:\Program Files\ArcPad 7.1\Extensions' folder? Thank you.
