I am using the arcpad data manager toolbar with 10.1 and arcpad 10. I have fields created to populate x, y, z, lat, and long in my point file. How do i get those fields to be populated after i come back out of the field? I saw there is a script out there that you put in your default applet file path, but that was for an older version. Do i need to do something similar or what is everyone else doing out there to get coordinate information into your attribute table. Thanks in advance.

Jake

This is my question also. Apparently there is a way to autopopulate your xyz attribute fields, but I have not been able to find out how. I'll be interested to see the responses.

After you load your shapefile from the field into ArcMap, open an editing session and select that shapefile for editing. Open its attribute table, then click on the top header of your longitude or X Field. Right click, then select Calculate Geometry. Use the dropdown menu for Property and select "X Coordinate of a Point". Select the appropriate coordinate system and units, and voila! So easy! Run through the same process for latitude (Y) and elevation (Z).

Good luck! Let me know how it goes!

Anna Riling
Geologist and GIS Technician
Animas Environmental Services, LLC
Durango, Colorado 81301

I have used the LeProwse/Minteer applet and GPS locates to great success with ArcPad 6.0. However, it rarely works with ArcPad 10.X. For example, I just did a two day field project with 413 points captured with GPS - none of them autopopulated the X,Y fields. Today I revisited three points to update their geometry with GPS and the X,Y fields autopopulated. Same ArcPad project, same shapefiles, same attribute table, same applet. Go figure!

For those using ArcPad 10.2 - check out the new QUICKFIELDS functionality.

This allows you to set rules for the auto-population of attribute data eg. x, y, date, time, auto-increment values and more!

Simply map the expressions you build in ArcPad to the fields in your data, switch on QuickFields and watch the data appear in your forms as you collect new features 🙂

Hannah
