I tried deleting the ArcPadPrefs.apx file (though the files in that folder were ArcPad.apx and ExtensionPrefs.apx). A new ArcPad.apx file was created, but the PrjData.dll problem still exists.

The format for the photos are .jp2. When I go to the Extension tab, all that is there is ArcGIS Online, ArcPad StreetMap, HARN Datum Transform, NADCON Datum Transform, and SiRF. None of the normal extensions are on the list.

Another piece of info, when I reload ArcPad through the Deployment Manager "Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition-Dev[E.CAB" cannot be installed. It also tells me that ArcPad 10 cannot be installed, but everything else successfully installs.

Thanks for the help.

I am working with ArcPad 10 on a Trimble GeoXH 2005 series and I have been getting this message when I start up ArcPad:

"\Program Files\ArcPad\System\PrjData.dll not found. Projection and datum transformations may not operate correctly."

How do I fix this problem?

I also have another problem, which may or may not be related to the previous one. When I go to add an aerial photo to my map in ArcPad, ArcPad refuses to acknowledge that the aerial photos that I have saved in the Trimble exist.

Hello,

For the first issue, ArcPad can sometimes lose the listing of datums in the GPS Preferences dialog. When this occurs, arcpad is unable to reference the GPS data to the datasets due to the loss of the incoming datum and hence cannot transform it to the operating reference frame. A blank GPS datum field (GPS Preferences > Datum) is indicative that the prjdata.dll cannot be found.
ArcPad looks for the prjdata.dll in the System path (default is: \Program Files\ArcPad\System) on the mobile device.

Also, when you deployed ArcPad 10 to the mobile device from the Deployment Manager, did you check to have 'Install Datum Transform/s for Windows Mobile' installed?

For the second issue, in ArcPad > Advanced Settings > Extensions tab, ensure that the correct image format is checked on to allow ArcPad to "see" the raster in order to add it to the map.

I hope these few things help out.

If not, please respond and let me know.

Thank you.

Did you have ArcPad 7.1.1 previously installed on this system? Normally this is an issue I've seen with versions pre-8. My guess is that the ArcPadPrefs.apx file is still left over from a previous version and it's looking for that dll. To (hopefully) get around this issue, delete your ArcPadPrefs.apx file from:

C:\...My Documents\My Arcpad\ArcPadPrefs.apx.

When you save new preferences the next time you're in ArcPad, a new ArcPadPrefs.apx file will be created. Does this resolve the issue?

For you aerial photos, what format are they in? My guess is that you don't have proper extension turned on.

ArcPad > Advanced Settings > Extensions Tab (far right) > Check on the extension for the proper raster type (TIFF, MrSID, JPEG, etc).

Any luck with the above?

Sounds like something has really gotten corrupt on that mobile device. The quickest way out of this one is probably going to be a factory reset. The reset and installation of ArcPad can be completed in less than 15 minutes.

Use the Geo2005 Reset Guide to reset the device to Factory Default Settings.

Note: the "application buttons" that the guide refers to are the two buttons with horizontal lines on the handheld.

Any luck after the reset?

I wonder if the page isn't loading properly. Here's what you should find under that topic.

Resetting to factory default settings

If a soft reset, or hardware based soft reset, does not resolve the issues you are experiencing, perform a
reset to factory default settings.

Warning: Resetting to factory default settings erases all data and software installed on the handheld.

1. Turn on the handheld.
2. Press and hold the power button until the handheld turns off.
3. As soon as the handheld turns off, continue to hold the power button down and press the two
application buttons. When you see a warning about data loss, release all buttons and follow the
instructions on the screen.
