You've probably already checked this, but just to make sure...

If "automatically pan view" is checked on under GPS Preferences, it might be zooming to the map to an area off of your basemap area. It'll zoom to the last GPS location it had a fix at, so if that was far away from your basemap area it might just be really far off screen. If your basemap covers the area you're testing at, it might be a memory issue.

If I use a large (10mb+) raster image, it will act strange, and disappear while the layer is checked on, etc. You might try checking the amount of available memory before and after turning GPS on and see if it looks like you're running out. If so, you might try using the local map tile creation script that was on the ArcPad blog. It can create a bunch of tiles of a decent size (1-2mbs each) and once they're all in the APM and turned on, function just like having a large raster.

Good luck

I am running Arcpad 10 with my trimble nomad. I can see my base map until I activate my GPS and then the basemap dissapears. I checked all my projections and all shapefiles and map properties are projected the same. Does anyone know what could be causing this and how I could fix this?
