I can second that - and it not only happens with autorotation, but also when the map is rotated manually and then panned or rescaled - this causes the map view to pan or rescale entirely erratically and not in the desired way of the specific pan or rescale applied. Basically this renders the rotation function entirely useless as it requires to entirely pan and zoom in again to the needed map section if this happens.

If this really is a known, 6-year old bug, then refering to a user based script of the same age is simply shameless!

I am still having this problem with ArcPad v10.02. It will repeatedly zoom out with nearly every refresh when I have Auto Rotation activated. After several of these zoom-outs, the scale is useless to me and I have to manually zoom in.

This repeated zooming out is obviously very annoying and is not someting I have encountered with any other GPS equipment that auto-rotates. Even a 10-year-old, $150 recreactional GPS unit does not do this. Isn't this something that should be fixed for ArcPad? I can not see how this repeated zooming-out benefits any end user.

Agree wholeheartedly. This drives us all nuts.

One thing that works around the problem is setting a bunch of bookmarks for the ArcPad map of where we will be going. That makes getting back to the right scale and location a little easier.

I tried saving a default scale with that map but that does not help at all. This still happens after marking a few points, even very close together.
