ArcPad struggles with rasters, and they have to be formatted just so. The most reliable way that I have found to prepare/convert rasters for ArcPad is to open them in ArcMap, right click on them in the table of contents, and under 'Output Raster' make sure that the 'Use Renderer' and 'Force RGB' options are toggled.

sid files would have a .sid extention.

Do you have the extension to allow JPEG2000 installed? I just did this the other day, so I'll get right back to you on this.

EDIT:

I had to do this since I no longer have tools for MrSid files. However, my current ArcPad (v7.1) setup is so customized right now I can't find the windo I need... but you need to make sure the extensions allow for jp2. I would look at

ArcPad Help

under Advanced, extensions. If you can see the jpeg2000 option is available/active, then it should be able to see the jp2. If it still doesn't see it, may need to re-work with it thru a mosaic dataset. You want to make sure that the coordinate system and projection is set, preferably to the that of the data you plan to collect, since the raster typically will not project-on-the-fly in ArcPad (maybe it can in 10.x?).

Hope that helps.

Thanks for your help Rebecca, I checked ArcPad options and made sure that all the image formats were checked. Nothing worked. I tried one more time using the original format (sid). Now the dumb thing showed up. I didn't do anything any different. I will try some more and see what happens. Thanks again, Tucker, forester, US Army Corps of Eng. 502-624-1883. if you would like to call about this matter.
