Grid index map

I'm using ArcGIS Desktop 10.8.1 and I need to make a map using a grid with an index. I did this years ago with an older version, using a script. But I don't have the script anymore. I have created an 8x8 grid and I want to create an index showing what grid location each road in a county shows up in. I want to put that index at the bottom of the map. I'm completely lost right now. Please help. Thanks!

No. Not a series. Just one page, printed something like 36x44. Roughly 85% of the map will be a county with roads and a grid over it. At the bottom of the map, I want an index of all the roads and their location on the map that says something like "Main St D3" to show that Main Street is in that grid section. I've done this before, but it's been almost 10 years.

I had a similar issue a while ago where I had to do a place index for a map book. But this was for a great number of points in a grid on almost 100 pages. I used geo processing Intersect twice, first time from the point file to get a new point file with corresponding pages. The second Intersect I made from the new point file and my grid. Maybe you can use the Intersect for lines, i. e. your roads.
