Review the 'stretch proportion...' checkbox setting in the editor options for both General and Topology. This determines how a feature behaves when a vertex/node is moved. UT Editor may be using either of these.

Hello ,

I am using the Move tool from Editor (start editing ) in ArcMap (Esri) to shift the X-coordinate of the junction geometry by 0.5 .

However, when I move the junction, the entire connected line also shifts.

I want to move the junction while only adjusting the first segment of the connected line up to the first vertex, without affecting the rest of the line.

1) How can I ensure that only the first segment moves while keeping the rest of the line unchanged ?

I noticed that in some cases, after moving the junction, it became connected to both the original cables and the parallel cables.

2) How can I ensure that when I move the junction, it will not become connected to the parallel cables as well?

Thanks in advance .

Hi Joker -

I assume you're using a geometric network here, true? If so, that's the way the software works. A junction is the endpoint of all lines connected to the junction. If you move the junction the endpoints of the line move.

Depending on exactly what you wan to do, you may be able to insert a vertex (or vertices) on either side of the junction, so when you move the junction only that, and the small segments between your new vertex and the junction will move.

Adding a screen shot may help other better understand exactly what you are trying to do.

Ed

Hi @EdwardBlair ,

Thanks for your reply .

I am working with a geometric network using the UT Editor (developed of ArcMap).

In UT Editor, when I move a cable joint using the Move tool in the Editor by the Esri function (e.g., Move Tool, 0.5), it is supposed to split the through cable at the cable joint, dividing it into two cables. This is exactly what I want to achieve.

However, I have noticed two issues after moving the cable joint:

Sometimes, the through cable is correctly split, but other times it is not.

When moving the cable joint, the Move tool shifts all the connected cables, changing the vertex positions (geometry) of the connected lines.

What I actually want is:

When I move a cable joint, only the first segment up to the first vertex of each connected line should move—not the entire line.

Regarding your suggestion to manually edit the vertices on both sides, it seems like a good idea. However, since I have a large number of cable joints to process, doing this manually for each connected line would take too long.

Do you have a better solution or suggestion

Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

When using the move tool to shift the coupling point by 0.5, does it always move the entire connecting lines, or could there be a bug in the function?
