Time not showing in attribute table data -ArcMap

Hi all.

I have added fishing vessel tracking data from Excel to ArcMap (10.8.1). This data included a date and time column in Excel. However, when I add the data to ArcMap, and open the attribute table for thsat data set it only displays the Date and not the time. So for example in Excel, the date/time of a single Lat/Long point looks like this:

01/01/2017 02:40

but on the Arcmap attribute table, all I get is: 01/01/2017. time is missing.

I would appreciate it if anyone could let me know how to successfully have the time included as per my original excel data.

How are you adding the data to ArcMap? I am on 10.6.1, but can't reproduce. If I add and excel.xlsx sheet to ArcMap, then right click and Display XY data, it comes in with date and time just as in the Excel file.

One thing to watch with ArcMap and Excel is to make sure the first row of the table is completely populated.

Doesn't matter the formatting in Excel, ArcMap looks at the first value (below the header row) to determine field type.

So, make sure the first row has text in it for text fields, a number in it for numeric fields, and a complete date/time in it for date/time fields. If not complete, I add a dummy line as the first one, then delete it once I have the data in ArcMap.

Hi. Thanks for your reply. I add the data by choosing Add Data, then choose the excel sheet, then like you choose display XY. Everything seems to be fine up to that point. However, when I export the XY points to create a shapefile, the Date only appears, with the time part still missing!

@aquacultureman did you ever resolve this issue? I am having the same problem bringing data into a GIS project. I have date and time in the csv file but when I bring it into the GIS project, date is only visible. Thanks for any help.
