ArcMap 10.6.1 Crashing randomly

We have ArcGIS Desktop 10.6.1 and it crashes whenever we open ArcMap or ArcCatalog. Sometimes we are able to use it for sometime and sometimes it crashes instantly. The crash is not dependent on any tool or any specific activity. Even if ArcMap or ArcCatalog is idle, after sometime it crashes and this window appears.

The installed softwares:

ArcGIS Web Adaptor (IIS) 10.6.1 10.6.9270

ArcFM Solution Object Reader 10.6.1b for ArcGIS Server 10.61.20.2513

ArcGIS VBA Compatibility 10.2.3497

ArcGIS Data Reviewer 10.6.1 for Desktop 10.6.862

ArcGIS Workflow Manager 10.6.1 for Desktop 10.6.8141

ArcGIS Data Interoperability 10.6.1 for Desktop 10.6.9270

ArcFM Solution Desktop 10.6.1b 10.61.20.2513

ArcGIS Desktop 10.6.1 10.6.9270

ArcGIS Server 10.6.1 10.6.9270

ArcFM Fiber Manager 10.6.1b 10.61.20.2513

ArcFM Object Reader for ArcGIS Desktop 10.6.1b 10.61.20.2513

The patches:

Any solution to this as it is impacting our work because of unexpected crashing.

These actions are already taken but no solid result

Deleted the normal.mxt template for ArcMap
Deleted the normal.gxt template for ArcCatalog
Reset the ESRI USER Profile
Deleted the DefaultDomain_Path
Disabled BackgroundGeoprocessing
Cleared ArcMap cache
Cleared Temporary desktop files
Cleared GP results History and Reduced level of records from 2 weeks to 1 week.
Started ArcMap Logging for understanding issue.

Hi, We tried all the steps mentioned in the article on how to Soft Reset ArcGIS Desktop but it is still crashing.

You will need to contact Tech Support, there may be something specific to your machine

Does this occur if you open and save [locally e.g. to your desktop] a blank / empty .mxd? Also - have you got / do you use a large number of folder connections?

I remember experiencing this with 10.6. In my case, the C:\Python27 directory had had its permissions changed so that only Administrators could view its contents. To fix it, I clicked the Python folder, waited for File Explorer to tell me that it wasn't accessible and asked if I wanted to make it accessible, to which I clicked Yes. Python, after all, is necessary for a lot of ArcMap functionality so it made sense why it was crashing. But still no idea on how those permissions got changed. I saw this on four other workstations in my organization, out of perhaps 25 workstations.

No, it occurs very randomly sometimes after working for sometime or sometime just after launching ArcMap or ArcCatalog. It doesn't matter if I am opening a blank mxd or some other mxd. We usually don't have multiple folder connections.

We checked all the permissions and settings but unfortunately didn't work.

We left ArcMap in an open state and checked back after 10 minutes and it got crashed again.

Yes, We did run Repair and it still got crashed within 5 minutes.

Good idea to do so now. random crashes are usually related to issues that are not general to the software but specific to the user's environment. Tech Support has the tools to examine your situation remotely and offer suggestions that can lead to a solution

Thanks for the Advice Dan, we shall do that next once after we uninstall and reinstall again, on the other hand we are thinking that if it has something to do with ArcGIS Desktop Extensions or ArcFM environment?

could be... when I do an install, I uninstall everything esri (including folders in the c:\users... path) and install Pro first.

@HarshJain did you found a solution? I have the same problem since last year for arcgis 10.6.1 and ArcFM 10.6.1a. Since last year I have a support case opened but no solution yet.
