WFM REST API only in the extension?

I am sure this has been asked and answered but: Is the WFM's REST API only available when the Extension is applied to the Server or is it part of the Server's general API?

Why I asked is because we are a Linux shop and I would like access to the API but their is no WFM Server Extension for Linux. Would there be an alternative or than setting up a Windows box?

Hi Peter,

Workflow Manager's API is only available with the extension applied, and as you noted there is no extension for Linux. There is unfortunately no alternative other than setting up a Windows ArcGIS server.

I figured as much but was hoping that it might be included with the server (which it should).
