Can you control which version to be modified when you open a mxd containing more than one version?

When I use the Desktop step to launch an ArcMap document, the version for all layers is automatically set to the job version.

My question is if I have more than one sde connection pointing to different versions, can I specify which sde connection been replaced by job version. An alternative is to change only the the first sde connection is the mxd, and leave the rest as it is.

How can I achieve this?

thanks

Helen
