Use map image layer with Group Filter widget

Currently I am using two feature layers in my web app and using the group filter widget to filter the layers by date range. We are experiencing lag issues, so I wanted to try using map image layers.

However, when I use a map image layer, the group filter widget does not recognize that it is a date field and does not display today's date and does not display a calendar picker when clicking on the date. Instead the user must manually enter a date. I don't know if there is possible code I could add to force tell it that it is a date field.

In the config file it lists the layer with a ".0" after it.

When using the feature layer, it displays the date and allows me to choose from the calendar if I want to change the date.

I am using WAB Developer edition 2.26 and Portal 10.9.1.
