Initial map too zoomed out on dashboard

Hello,

I am making a dashboard that is based around a map I have added. The map only contains data for one state, but when I open up my dashboard, the initial zoom level is way too far out. Is there a way to modify this so the initial extent on the map n the dashboard is more appropriate for the data/more zoomed in?

There is, at least in the Dashboard created using the Classic Dashboard template. You can change the map extent while editing your Dashboard and then tell it to use that extent rather than the one that has been specified in the underlying web map:
