Pass Search Parameter in URL

I have downloaded and placed an app built with the web app builder beta 3 on our web server. The app works fine, but I have been asked if it's possible to pass a search parameter in the URL...something like http://gis.linncounty.org.../?gpn=1234567890 ... where the app would zoom to the parcel with an id of 1234567890.

I don't know much of anything about JavaScript so I was wondering if this is possible, and if so, what it would take to implement?

This will be part of the next beta release of my Enhanced Search Widget for WAB. It is possible but quite involved.

A couple questions:

1) Is your Enhanced Search Widget for WAB available for download or implementation into WAB?

2) Is it possible to call an existing widget within the URL, like the Filter/Query widget and pass the search?

Do you add the widget after download or add the widget through the Web AppBuilder developer mode...configure and then download?

Matt,

To be able to configure the widget to work with your data you are going to need the UI in WAB. So get the widget and copy it into the WAB\client\stemapp\widgets folder and then launch WAB developer edition and add the eSearch widget to an app.

hi Robert

I was reading this thread and realized I have been loading your widget incorrectly.

I have been placing the code in the server\apps\5\widgets folder and manually adding a location for the icon in the server\apps\5\ config.json file.

could you please detail the correct process.

also

I see in the \client\stemapp\sample-configs and \test-configs many optional files. have you experimented with any of these? and/or know of any documentation regarding what they do?

and

there are a few widgets in the \client\stemapp\widgets\samplewidgets folder. again, have you any experience with these or know how to enable them so they can be explored?

Sure that is covered in the docs that you got when you downloaded the developer version.

Make sure that you setup a virtual directory in your web server to the docs folder and then you can browse the docs like this:

http://gislap183/docs/#/Deploy_custom_widgets_and_themes/03w30000004w000000/

Sure to use any of the test-configs all you need to do is setup an application to your WAB developer edition file location (at least this is the way I did it).

In IIS I add an Application and set the path to "C:\webappbuilder3\" then I can use a url like:

http://gislap183/WABTestApp/client/stemapp/index.html?config=config-dev.json

When I want to use one of the other configs I just change the ?config= to something like ?config=test-configs/config-dockablepanel-bottom-1.json

Those sample widget are a part of some of those sample configs.

Hi Matthew,

In addition to the widget listed above take a look through the following Javascript sample:

History API to track selected feature | ArcGIS API for JavaScript

This sample touches on the classes in the api that would help support the functionality you are looking for.

One of the main goals is to see how you can utilize the history api, but it runs off of a query string in the url which is what you are looking for.

To provide that functionality the api supports the following class:

this class supports a url to object function that is used in the sample here:

//extract the parcel id from the url
        function getParcelFromUrl(url) {
          var urlObject = urlUtils.urlToObject(url);
          if (urlObject.query && urlObject.query.parcelid) {
            return urlObject.query.parcelid;
          } else {
            return null;
          }
        }

The orange line I highlighted above is the where the parcel ID is obtained in the application.

Later in the application that obtained ID is used to select the required features:

function selectParcel(parcelid) {
if (parcelid) {
var query = new Query();

when that sample runs you pass in a url to the application with the id of the parcel you want to zoom to:

Hope this helps as to the background of that can be obtained and used.

this is wonderful. thank you again.

I love the unique dropdowns and the predefined dropdowns.

I do have three questions-

in the default esri query when the expression is configured there is a 'results tab' where it is possible to set the symbol specific to that query. are you planning on adding that feature?

and

you have box called 'definition expression'

I am unclear about what this box is for. it doesn't seem to be required.

I am hoping it is something you are working on that will provide a 'definition query' like capacity, but maybe it is just a label of some sort.

and

the default query tool retains the different queries. this is nice as I can then do more than one selection and see the results.

it appears that your tool presently clears the previous query when a new one is run.

is there a switch somewhere that can be set to retain the queries until manually cleared?

Glenn,

I don't have any current plans to implement my widget the same way the Query widget handles this. What you can expect is I will be working on getting the same features that my Flex version of the eSearch. So that version gave you the ability to specify symbology for individual search layers and that will be coming for this eSearch.

The definition expression is something I though I had finished. But now looking in the code I forgot to implement it. So it is a coming feature.

No, There are going to be many differences in the eSearch and the Query widget. Initially I considered this option, but decided it was not conducive to my widgets workflow.

do you by chance know if the default query tool 'unique' option is suppose to (or going to) generate a pick list like yours does.

it doesn't presently.

Initially when I was that they presented the drop down list in the widget settings UI I thought (as most people) that the widgets UI would present this same list, but there is nothing in there code for this and no indications that it will be.

Hi Robert,

I looked at your live demo: ArcGIS Web Application. It looks pretty nice ans impressive. I also saw the URL Search capabilty.

I wanted to ask if it can make the URL search on two fields. When I looked at Louisville Zoning layer, I saw there are 2 parameters for the search: Zoning type & Zoning name. I asked for Zoning type = RESIDENTIAL and Zoning name = RES MULTI-FAMILY (see attached file) but when I Exported the Search URL, I saw only reference to Zoning name : http://gis.calhouncounty.org/WAB/V1.1.1/widgets/eSearch/index.html?esearch=RES MULTI-FAMILY&slayer=0&exprnum=0

Is it possible to search by 2 fields in the URL?
