Hot Swap maps in WAB?

I'm trying to have my WAB setup so that I can change out the underlying maps without doing a lot of changes to WAB widgets. Essentially I want to reuse the same WAB application with different maps so that the look and functionality are consistent across all the maps. I built a "Widget" map layer that I add to all the maps to be used by attribute table, etc. and I set up chart widget with connections to Portal layers instead of map. However when I try swapping in a new map, the settings are all still there in the chart widget and Search widget but I still have to manually reset the setting to get it to work. I'm trying to roll out an upgrade to our map series and it would save a lot of time if I could get this to work.

Im having a little trouble Configuring this widget. it doesn't seem to populate my content and just tells me what user i am logged into. any help would be greatly appreciated
