Great news and great work! Specially the reference framework for the viewer.
Chart widget also looks promising.
Will the application builder work with custom widgets? Or is there any change you can download the source code for the application builder?

This initial release of the application builder does not support adding custom widgets using the application builder, but this functionality is planned for a future release.

However, it is possible to "manually" add custom widgets into the main configuration (just like before) and then configure the rest of the application using the application builder.

The source code for the application builder is not yet available, but it is something we are planning for future release (that would support custom widgets, localization, widget groups, etc).

Hi all,
I'm trying to use application builder but following installation guide it seams that something is missing.
I have Adobe Air 3.1 installed and also Flash Plugin 11.

I've copied web application under c:\Inetpub\wwroot and tried to get it from URL http://localhost/AppBuilder/AppBuilder.swf

When the application starts it shows many errors like this:
" VerifyError: Error #1014: Impossibile trovare la classe flash.events::NativeWindowBoundsEvent.
at flash.display::MovieClip/nextFrame()
at mx.managers::SystemManager/deferredNextFrame()
at mx.managers::SystemManager/preloader_preloaderDocFrameReadyHandler()

What I'm missing?

Are you trying to access the application builder, or an application created with the application builder?

The application builder is an AIR application (not a web application, but more of a "desktop" application) and thus does not run in your web browser. It is accessed from the Start menu (or its non-English equivalent). You should not be copying AppBuilder.swf anywhere...

Hi,

I'm using Flash Builder 4.5 and when I import the new 2.5.zip I get 78 Errors (see attached...). I have tried with the Adobe 4.5.1 SDK and also the new 4.6 but get the same errors. I have done this plenty of times with older versions without issues. What am I missing? Thanks!

I'm having the same issue as Phillip. I have imported the source code for the viewer from the ZIP into a new Flash Project. I am using FB 4.0.1 and the 4.1 SDK. I am following the "Getting Started for Developers" directions here: http://help.arcgis.com/en/webapps/flexviewer/help/#/Getting_started_for_developers/01m30000001q000000/GUID-2624258B-64B1-4768-8BEF-9ECEAEEF3704/

All the errors I receive are located in the Components & Managers - under com.esri.viewer.

I have had no problems using FB and the 2.3/2.3.1 & 2.4 source code. I'm assuming that there may be some setting that could fix this?

Thank you for switching to the Apache license and publishing the code on GitHub! I find the Apache license easier to understand, and I think the GitHub repo will make it easier to merge official updates into the modified version of the viewer we use here at the Kansas Biological Survey. I'm also excited about the opportunities for interaction and collaboration. For example, I'm now following some ESRI developers on GitHub and Twitter. 🙂

Same issue as above, imported viewer source into Flash Builder 4.5 and I'm getting 78 errors. Same work flow worked fine with the 2.4 viewer source. what gives?

Ahh.. well if that is the case then they need to update the help which doesn't mention this step:

To install Flex Viewer 2.5 source (after following steps from above link):

7. Download ArcGIS API for Flex 2.5 from here:
http://resources.arcgis.com/content/arcgis-flex-api-download

8. Extract downloaded ArcGIS API for Flex 2.5 to a folder

9. Drag the file agslib-2.5-2011-11-30.swc from \ArcGIS_Flex\libs\agslib-2.5-2011-11-30.swc into your Flash Builder projects \libs folder

10. Project will recompile and errors go away

OK the steps are simple Download the API source from here:

http://resources.arcgis.com/content/arcgis-flex-api-download

Once you have downloaded it and extracted the contents of the Zip browse to the:

arcgis_api_for_flex_2_5\ArcGIS_Flex\libs folder and copy the agslib-2.5-2011-11-30.swc.

In Flash Builder open your Flex Viewer project you imported earlier find the libs folder listed in the Package Explorer tree and paste to the libs folder.

That's it... Your ready to go.

P.S. I sure the Flex Team will get the instructions updated ASAP (remember it just came out 12/2/11 PM) and they are just human.

I understand they are human, but they can't just replace information that worked with information that doesn't work, with no way to even access the old help that did work for the last version.

In order to give you an answer on your question....No, I'm not..I just installed Adobe Air, dowloaded and unzipped the AppBuilder-2.5.zip file and tried to run AppBuilder.swf.
I'm not so familiar with AIR appications. Btw, may I have anything else installed? How should I run it? What you mean with "...It is accessed from the Start menu..."?
Fyi, I'm using Windows 7 x64 Italian

I'm using new release with FlexBuilder 4.5.1 SDK...it runs and works fine...Just some error to fix during first compilation. It seams to be faster than previous version (2.x). 🙂

There shouldn't be an AppBuilder-2.5.zip file. The file you download should be AppBuilder-2.5.air which you then either double-click (or right-click and "Install"). This will start the installation...

Which OS and browser (and version) are you using? Maybe the browser for some reason does not recognize or keep the (air) file extension. Could you try downloading it from a different browser? Or rename your AppBuilder-2.5.zip to AppBuilder-2.5.air.

I think it's great that there is a new version of the Flex Viewer and API, but I am still developing for 2.3.1. My work load has not allowed time for upgrading. It baffles me that ESRI thinks that suddenly everyone can immediately upgrade and no one needs information that they needed the day before. (Unless I am missing something - am I?) Please provide a link to at least the previous version (2.4) of the ArcGIS Viewer for Flex web pages. Thank you.
